In the Orthodox Church you may hear both homily and sermon. Here in the South, we usually use the word sermon.
It is the preaching offered within the Divine Liturgy, drawn from the Scriptures proclaimed that day. Not a lecture. Not a performance. A pastoral word calling us to repentance, healing, and deeper life in Christ.
At times, sermons are also preached by visiting clergy and guest preachers, offering the faithful the gift of hearing the Gospel through different voices within the Church.
